i have the 14X5 version.best aluminum snare drum to me.can be played in most settings. it is so versatile ,it's my main snare drum.it's a great snare at an affordable price. BTW,pearl offers very special snare drums at very good price compared to most drum makers.

So I stopped by Daleís Drums today, tried out two awesome DW snares, and came home with one. Itís an 8x14 DW Purple Heart VLT snare. Phat backbeat with massive presence. Love the drum so far but boy does this lacquer pick up fingerprints easily.

Nice! Mike Foreman has been wanting a purple heart DW snare ever since DCofP posted those shoot out videos on YT.

If anyone is contemplating buying a DW Purple Heart snare just do it! They sound incredible and are a standout among DW snares or any snares for that matter.

I couldn’t agree more. I had the chance to dial the new drum in this morning and it’s something special. The 8” deep version has some serious body and presence.

I've never been comfortable using a 14x8 snare but the one that I have in my collection (bell bronze) really sounds great.

That looks great. Is it ply? I had a a stave shell of purple heat mixed with walnut and willow. Though it had the darkness I wanted, it had too much bite for me. I sold it. It was beautiful too.
