Absolute class I'm sure you'll agree! I'm pimping and modernising the old girl a bit though. Gold True hoops and a 3P butt plate incoming this week, and there'll eventually be a Mini Mag on it too (when they're available in gold - as the standard MAG doesn't fit the hole pattern of the old Nickelworks throw off). Expect more pics when its had a good old fettle!

My "cheapest" snare is a Pearl Sensitone Elite 5.5 x 14 steel shelled drum. I bought it used off of EBay 10 to 15 years ago. Less than $100. Great drum! With good heads and meticulous tuning, it rivals the very best.

Those are brilliant drums and a great score by the way.

Thanks for posting the video. That is a really nice sounding snare. I also enjoyed watching how Dave's head moves to the music - the cross stick was especially delightful.

Over the past 3 months Ive bought two brand new Ludwig snares! I went with a limited edition LB545 5x14 Bronze Beauty snare and a limited edition LC665 6.5x14 Pewter Copperphonic snare! Ive made a good connection with a dealer and paid way less than retail on both. This saved me enough money to pay for replacement throw-offs and butt plates for both snares. I really dislike the Atlas throw-off and butt plate specifically. I replaced them with Dunnett/Gibraltar R-Class quick release throw-offs and Ludwig P33 diecast butt plates that work much better. You may think theyre too big/bulky, but I think they look cool and match the imperial lugs perfectly. This swapped out hardware + new Puresound snare wires & Evans drumheads = perfection! Im in love with both of these drums and will be buying a LB408 8x14 Black Beauty this year as well. I wish I had a couple extra arms so I could play all of them at once!

    Good looking drums!!!

I’m curious what exactly you didn’t like about the new throw offs? I think the new design is the best they’ve had to offer, smooth and reliable.

I don’t use string, I use mylar for my snare wires. I just really didn’t like the snare strap attachment points, especially on the butt plate. There was no hump on the inside of the clamp that held/locked the mylar into place when tightening down & aligning the snare wires. It was just guess work. I find it way easier when there is a hump/tab on the inside of the strainer & buttplate clamps. The new Ludwig buttplate that I put on has the hump that I’m talking about. Plus the Dunnett strainer has a quick disconnect. So it’s super easy when switching out equal length snare wires and using the same mylar. I know exactly where the mylar sits in the buttplate and I just go from there. Plus the Dunnett strainer is also rotationally adjustable, which I like a lot.

The Atlas strainer really isn’t bad, I just hated the buttplate. Figured I would just replace both with what I prefer. I hope that makes sense lol.
