Oops, I did it again. Craigslist got me. Couldn't pass up the deal. Black Nickel over Brass and a 9303 snare stand.

I have a few goodies coming in that are not "bargains" like what Marquis or Rotarded find, but they are real gems for sure! One arrives tomorrow.

I've always wanted one of those Gretsch brass snares with the gold tube lugs, I saw British drummer Ralph Salmins using one and it was phenomenal.

As for my own collection, Just added this Natal 14x4" Chrome over brass snare, sounds great and looks wonderful. Just put a calftone batter head on it, incredibly sensitive and articulate, but with a nice throaty backbeat. Snareweight for added loveliness.

I made this 14 X 6.5 nickel over brass snare out of pieces I collected over the years. The nickel over brass shel is from Crockett Tubs, the hoops are nickel over brass Tama Mighty Hoops, the nickel plated vent is from DW, the nickel over brass lugs and the nickel rods are from drumfactorydirect, the nickel plated 42 strand wires are from Canopus and the beer tap throw-off is from Gibraltar. The throw-off was originally chrome plated so I disassembled it and soaked it in muriatic acid to strip the chrome plating leaving the nickel plating intact.

Here is my 6.5x14 Oriollo Bellmaker 65 set up on my kit. The sound is unbelievable. It is so full and powerful, yet has none of the weird overtones you sometimes get with a metal snare drum. The Tama hi-carbon snare wires really complement this drum.

    Beautiful!

It looks so good with the kit as well. I like a contrast when it comes to the main snare's appearance but it needs to be complimentary to the the kit as a whole. This just looks so good Matt!

Thanks Josh! It IS beautiful, but the greatest part of it is the sound and power. It's eye-opening. I'm changing to thicker sticks, and when I play this snare, I can't believe my ears!
