    It's almost like using MMX toms with MRX floor and bass drums.

    I wish I still had that catalog.

    Hi Al! I hope all has been good with you. Thanks for the info. So, it sounds like they'll still be closer sonically to the old MRP/MLX and not the MMP/MMX...right? If that's the case they are still fairly thick shells and will sound like thick shelled drums compared to MMP/MMX's. Although being thinner than the original References they will have characteristics of thinner shells compared to the original References. Am I understanding this correctly?

    I didn't include the CZX's in my post because I remembered them being a more limited edition type of drum/kit and not a full production line like the MMX/MRX's. However, like you point out they were the absolute thickest...until the original References came out. Those shells seemed as thick to me but I never measured either.

    The ref pures are almost like using MMX/MMP toms with MLX/MRX/MRP floors and bass shells, thickness wise.

    Masters MMX/MMP
    4ply = 5.1 mm shells

    Masters MRP/MRX/MLX
    6ply = 7.5 mm shells

    Reference Pure Series
    6-ply = 5.4mm shell thickness = toms
    8-ply = 7.2mm shell thickness = floor and bass

    Well yeah .. they were expensive and not many sold due to high pricetag, but they are out there still. I was simply saying Pearl made thick shells back in the day before reference.

    By what I seen of this kit at Namm and how Gene explained how it is built it is very impressive.

    I found a new vid on Youtube that shows off the Ref Pure with Gene explaining the features, as well as the MCX, and Vision lines. I found it interesting that at about the 3:30 mark there is a guy in the backround playing on the regular Ref and Ref Pure kits, so this is as close to a Sound sample as Ive seen thus far.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Beagi...eature=related

    This is by far the most impressive thing I've seen out of Pearl at NAMM in years, and that faux Tamo MCX was pretty cool too!
