    Yes, it only makes a difference of 1" (just like using an 8" deep tom versus a 9" deep tom). It also depends upon where you line up the beater with the head.

    If you don't mind the beater hitting an inch or two above the center of the head, then you can lay the 20" kick drum on the floor and not use a riser. That might provide a little more space about the hoop.

    For those of you with a history here, you may or may not be familiar with my setup. There are some subtle changes here....I'll leave it to you guys to guess, but it is now WAY more comfortable....and it was super comfy before. The flow is super smooth....

    Love the Yamaha pads - tho on this kit I only have one. I use a DTX500 module on this kit. I also have a full DTX700 kit (customized) at home....same style pads....
