    Default Switching to Meinl...

I've decided to switch from Paiste/Sabain to Meinl only.

Does anyone else her eplay only Meinl cymbals? If so, what are your favourite Meinl cymbals?

I only have an 8" medium bell now... It was a right good bargain. Only cost me £40! (about $60)

I'm gonna see Jon on Saturday when I'm in town and see if he'll part trade my 14" 502 crash for a 16" classics crash... Hehehe... ^_~

I'm gonna do the same thing as soon as I get the money. I already have a 10" Classics Splash and an 18" Classics China. I like them both very much. Good cymbals for a great price. Here's what I'm planning to get:
-14" Classics Medium Soundwave Hi-Hats (even people who don't like the Classics line say they rule)
    -16" Classics China
-20" Classics Extra Powerful Ping Ride
    -16" Raker Medium Crash
    -17" Raker Medium Crash
    -18" Raker Medium Crash
(-and possibly an 8" Classics Medium Bell)
I currently have mostly Paiste 502's (and a 20" 1000 Rude Ride/Crash). The 16" China is actually pretty good, but the Crashes could be better.

Meinl is VERY good indeed. Classics, Byzance, Amun (especially these!!), ...

For Europe these are great cymbals. In the beginning they were specialised in budget-series but now they have really elaborated there prof series. I like em a lot, and as I said, if it's possible for you try the Amun cymbales. The sound is *sigh*

My local shop has a few Raker crashes, I think they sound great. Nice and crisp, bright and shimmering. They look pretty cool too.

I've got 14" Classics Powerful Soundwave Hats, 20" Classics Powerful Ride, 2 x 18" Meteor Crashes and a 16" Meteor Crash. The hats are really loud, too loud, they overpower the drums. The medium version of the hats however are perfect for almost all musical situations. The ride is very nice, bright and cutting. The crashes are cheap but they sound better than some more expensive models.

How do you like that Raker? Is it good for heavy music?

I'm switching so that I can be using one company that has everything I want, as opposed to mixing and matching cymbals.

The cymbals I want eventually be these:

Hi hats: 14” Raker Heavy Classic Hi-Hats – Loud hi-hats. I like loudness.

Splashes/small effect cymbals: 8” Classics Medium Bell – A loud bell, for loud accents.
8” Classics Powerful Bell – An extra-loud bell for extra-loud accents.
8 and 10” Raker Splashes – Cuttingly loud splashes.
10” Classics China Splash – a trashy splash for effects.
12” One Of A Kind (Mirror Finish) China

Crashes: 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18” Classics Medium Crashes – A set of versatile crashes that will be my main ones.
16, 17 and 18” Classics Powerful Crashes – Louder crashes that will be on my right hand side.
16, 17 and 18” Raker Heavy Crashes – Very loud crashes that will take up the space for crashes on my left hand side.

Chinas: 16, 18 and 20”” Raker Chinas – Loud chinas for loud accents (16 and 18”) and occasionally riding (20”).

Ride: 20” (or custom 21”) Amun Big Bell Powerful Ride – A powerful ride with a big bell, for loud riding.

A side note is that I plan on using the space above my crashes to hold the smaller crashes (14/15 etc).

the 8" medium bell is great, Herr Krinkle. It's sort of quietish on the rounder bit and hella loud on the flatter bit. I love it. I want an 8" powerful bell to go with it.

    Check this out!

I'm sure you see why Thomann is my favorite dealer and why I order all my cymbals from them. Their prices beat pretty much all Finnish dealers.
