Thanks man, too bad they cost over $600 . But i think I would rather get a DW Collector's Metal snare drum than a Tama snare drum.

I thought so too... but they changed the name of the finish as well.
Went from figured maple in 'Nordic Woods Black Burst' to
    Mappa Burl in Nightshade Burl.
I suspect the subtle shift in shell thickness has a lot to do with the mappa burl.
I agree... not much difference in sound but still....
is the collection really "complete" without one?

    Come on... do it.

Which collectors metal are you thinking of? I do have the 14"X6.5" Knurled steel and I can say that it is a nice drum. But, comparing a Valkyrie with a metal drum is a stretch as far as application and sound goes.

Dude...you are totally correct. I didn't even realize that it went to a Mappa Burl and I looked at that 2011 catalog more than a few times. I guess I am getting lax in my old age.

No, I am talking about the 14x6.5 Wrinkle Aluminum and probably 14x6.5 Brass-Kurled Finished. I like both drums. So far all the people I've asked about the Valkyrie have told me that it's one of the best sounding snare drums out there. Too bad I didn't buy it when i could.
