It's been a looooong time since I've logged into this site but I've lurked on and off over the last few years. Shocked I remembered the password. But to answer your question 12 years later tbone, it doesn't really affect the performance at all. Biggest thing is I won't have to worry about breaking these footboards.

Here's a couple I've done - first up Powershifter Eliminator conversion to direct drive with independent beater angle/footboard height adjustments. Seeing as a lot of pedals utilize the same size hex shaft, a lot of parts are interchangeable - I used Demon Drive direct drive links and Tama Vari-pitch beater holders to take this pedal to the next level. Huge improvement in feel.

    Default Axis pedal mods

Did some mods to my Axis A Longboards. Got creative with the beaters and used wood Iron Cobra beater heads with the Sonic Hammer shafts (Sonic Corba? Iron Hammers? lol) Had a Trick driveshaft on my Pearl pedal and when I got the Axis, the shaft had a ton of play in it (tried the recommended heating & tightening procedure , to no avail) and wanted to be able to use them together, so I designed these adapters and had them machined. Also had an issue with being able to center the beaters on the bass drum (I don't use triggers and the sound difference was very obvious, at least to me) so I got the Axis docking station. Problem was that the pedal just sits on the docking piece loosely and feels like you're playing a pedal that isn't clamped on to the hoop, so I drilled and tapped the base plate of the pedal to be able to solidly attach the two.

This is my formula for hot rodding a DW5000 pedal.
