How do you tune a reso bass drum head with a hole?

i spent about an hour just now tuning my bass drum
and now it sounds worse than it did before
that was a really crappy signature. i'm glad i changed it.

i usually start with the reso on a bass, tighten it just enough to get some low resonance, then put on the batter. i tighten that to the point where it feels nice to play on, and then i work with the reso for the tone and sustain i want. then, of course, some fine tuning with both. usually takes me about 10-15 minutes to do a head change on a bass.

I'm not learned in the drumming lingo i just play. Can someone break that down for me please?

And another thing, i play a sonor drum set and the tom attached to the booom stand of my rider is giving me some problems to tune. I have Evans skins on them, can anyone give me some advice?

A left and right ear.... The only catch is that you need to train them.

    MAGNUM:
start with the resonant head, just like i had mentioned with the bass, tighten it until you get it to resonate at a nice tone, then put on the batter head at a tension that feels good to play on and sounds right, then fine tune starting with the resonant, which may need more tensioning to sound right.

and remember to tighten opposite lugs on the drum, and to not just tighten them going around the drum clockwise. that doesn't tune evenly.

I know I'm able to tune my drums all by myself, but Mapex' memocle makes it so much easier....
