Default Lars' snare on St. Anger

Does anyone have an idea why Lars made his snare drum sound like a tin can (or worse) on metallica's new album.
The snare is so ringy, you can't even tell there's snare wires on it. Sounds like a double headed timbale. I think i would like the songs if his snare sounded like it has in the past.

Must be a Tama thing.... (sorry had to throw that in there)

hey, tama kicks some serious ***

its wither the Lars Ulrich signature Bell Brass, or the Lars Ulrich Signature Steel, and probably its a mixture of both

but ofcorse, they recorded St. Anger in a big open, concrete room, and he probably that for the Agressivness of St. Anger (or, what they want to be agressive), he wanted a high pitched ringy snare

the bell brass snare us supposed to be capable of amazing sensitivity, he just cranked the fuc/< out of it

Just sounds like he isn't using the snare wires at all... has the throwoff turned off.

The songs could have sounded so much better had the production been clean and better lyrics/vocals. 300th post biotch!

Most of what you hear on the album is the Bell Brass with no muffling and tuned like ***. I could make my Bell brass when i had it sound like that as well. Makes you cringe.

I just saw that vid on tv... The snare did sound like shize... Too bad he didn't keep it the way it was on ALL previous albums. He was probably forced to do it by the corprate executives

actually, I dont think it's a tuning issue, I think it was a micing thing. You'll get that effect if you point the mic at the corner of the drumhead. Maybe they did it by accident. Either way, I hate that band now. And wheres kirks wah pedal?!

My Bell Brass would sound like that with no mic at all. If you dont tune it just right and dont muffle it, that is the result.

So that's what, about a $1,000 worth of snare drum there that if you don't tune just right, don't mic just right, and don't muffle just right, will sound like ****? Wow, where can I get one of them bad boys? Sounds like a real bargain, ay?

Seriously people, if you really want to throw away that kind of money, pm me first and I'll give you my address so you can send the $1,000 to me. In return, I'll send you a generic $50.00 steel snare drum that will sound equally as bad. Thanks in advance for your generosity.
