    Default gretsch virgin bass drums

i've stopped using the mount in my bass drum now and would like to fill it up with something and make it a virgin. The bass drum is 22x16 and the hole for the mount is about 3cm in diameter. Is there a plate like the Pearl ones that i could use, or would a plug from the end of an icon rack fit it, or any other plug really?

I'd just leave it. There's no such thing as secondary virginity
I think having an ugly plastic plug over it would look worse than a mount...
And Gretsch doesn't have any kind of plug. Is your kit a Renown? I've got one at work and the tom mount doesn't bother me, and we mount the toms on a stand, too.

thanks, its just that it somtimes gets in the way of my 12' tom. Ideally i would be looking for a plate type thingy to cover it, like the pearl one. Oh, and my kit is a catalina i think?

take the mount off, go to a sheetmetal shop and have them cut you a piece of Stainless Steel, or Brass, or Copper or something cool that matches the size and bolt holes of the mount. They'll have to roll it to make it fit the roll of the drum, but they have the equipment to do that. If you want it to be really pimp, have them make a plate that bolts on, then another plate that covers the bolts so it's all one smooth piece.

I'm thinking of doing something like that with mine. Right now I still have the mount on my drum but I've pluged the hole where the post went into it with the rubber end cap from the post.

i've made the basic plate so far, it took about 20 minutes. I might just paint it or i may try to engrave a gretsch logo into it

You should get some smooth chrome carriage bolts and cut square holes in the plate to hold them. Then def. etch the Gretsch logo into the plate!
