Hi all
Since a long time I have the idea to build my own rubber ball beater. I've look to get gibraltar beater to get it modified but the less expensive felt beater at my local drum shop was 20 $. I need a beater that we could remove (unscrew the beater itself). So yesterday I shopped for some part I needed for my recent basement reno, so I went to an hardware shop (Home Hardware) and saw the thing I needed to build my own beater.
Here's the part I bought.
Toilet 8" floating rod - 3.50 $ cdn
Toilet screw set (for fitting the rod) - 3.50 $ cdn
Aluminium silver sleeve (pack of 5) - 0.89 $ cdn
Small washer - 0.05 $ cdn each
+ one kid rubber ball from the store "buck or two" (selling 3 rubber ball per pack) - 1.00 $ cdn
1- I cut the tread from one side of the floating rod.
2- I drilled a small hole in the sleeve to fit a small screw to be able to tight the sleeve on the rod.
3- I drill an hole in the rubber ball to insert the rod.
4- I assemble everything (sleeve - washer - ball - washer - screw)
5- Take picture then install on the pedal and I'm set.
PS. next will be a round wood ball![]()
Since I made it yesterday night while my kids were asleep, I only tried it this morning and I'm very satisfied with the result. My heel-toe hit are very cleaner and louder.
I thought I would share with you guys & gals to be able to build yours.
