My Exports I bought new and picked black just because they were easier to match other drums with. Coming off seven years of playing mismatched drums I thought that was the best strategy.

It was a good decision but I often still wish I woukd have gone red instead.

OK RedWolves, I'm gonna just say it:
NICE! Love the size, the color and the Chimes! I have a set myself and it's interesting how many times you use them once you have them.

You never know you love green drums until you see green drums! I played a set of green Sessions at Pearl HQ years ago and they made me a believer.

    My first Pearl set.

I have owned a Niles Slingerland set for a long time, but have been off the drums for a long time (too long). When I recently pulled out the Slingerlands to dust them off and start playing again, I noticed a little inner ply cracking on a tom or two and the wraps are, well, like me, showing their age. I decided to put them on my project list to refurb and picked up a used Export set locally to play in the meantime.

It is a Fusion config in Red Wine, I think early 2000's vintage. It had an inexpensive set of cymbals with it, a not so good Yamaha pedal, a Pearl Hi-hat (a bit rusty), cowbell, block, tambourine, good Pearl stands, etc... Heads looked to be original, and it had the Pearl Export wood snare as well. All in all, not bad for $300.

I spent about 4-5 days in the evenings removing all hardware and polishing it up as well as cleaning/polishing the shells. The chrome has some pitting and the snare hoops were rusty beyond salvage, but overall, it came out pretty good. The shells were very clean.

I have since replaced the top heads (new bottoms were damaged in shipment) and started messing with tuning, but the new replacement resos came in today, so I will continue tuning when I get back to my house where the set is located (next weekend).

I switched to my Camco bass pedal (I have a DW7000 but since I have been off the drums for a long time, the DW felt heavy to me, (and I am slow enough right now without that!), my better Zildjian cymbals and Hi-hat set, as well as my Premier Hi-hat stand.

I am waiting for a boom arm to mount another crash off the tom arm in the center and the set will be complete.

The Export wood snare is as bad as I had heard, so I will mess with it a bit (I enjoy a challenge) to see if I can improve it, but I suspect there is only so much I can do with it. The Slingerland chrome snare is in great shape if I can't get the Pearl to sound at least reasonable.

(Excuse the garage clutter, too many Bikes, a pile of racedeck style floor tiles to install and a long stalled '68 Corvette roadster project under the cover/towels behind the set):

    Thx

I was looking a a green set similar vintage, and I must say I like them both. The wraps on this set are pretty clean, so the red looks great.
