    It appears to be a cast brass shell at 3.5mm. The nice thing about that shell is the high gloss finish on the outside. The cast shells usually have a brushed finish.

    The Tama snare is just an ordinary bronze (phosphor) and not a bell bronze. The 1.2mm shell is too thin to be a cast (bell) bronze alloy. That is why the price is lower as well.
