    Good question. It's called a Hypervent. You can adjust the vent of the shell to be either completely closed, completely open (my preference), or anywhere in between. It's more for feel than sound....

    That mahogany is rich... they must add a little tint during the finishing process, because it doesn't quite look like the Omar Hakim signature snare. Both really show off the grain.
