There's always mixed opinions and input on this question from us all. Up front, there are differences between budget and professional microphones such as the PG52 vs Beta52. Usually the difference...
I have seen other's use them and they sound good to me. I'm not quite sure what all the differences are between the C3000/C214/C414 mics. May be diaphragm size or material plus low cut, pad...
I've had good luck with the AKG C1000/C3000s, AT2035s, Audix ADX51, Audix F15, even some cheap MXL LDCs
The AKG P170 aren’t expensive at all. I’ve seen used ones for $50 each. the newer models are black. The older ones are a baby blue color which sticks out like a sore thumb
Do you hear the noise from both of the PG81s? I agree with dexplosion, USED mics are the way to go.
Could be as simple as a bad mic cable...I've had that issue before. I assume you have tried different XLR cables with these PG81s?
Can you elaborate on not being able to get a decent consistent tone? Just wondering what you are experiencing with the PG81s
What sizes did you order?
I miss my old eliminator belt drives
That looks great!
Can't wait to see and hear the finished setup! Great finish on this series! I'm contemplating getting a session kit too
Tama apparently is doing an SLP steel kit. Dave's Drum Shop (Canada) on Facebook had this picture of a 4PC kit at a Preview show for Tama products.
Room environment will play tricks on your ears for sure....like i told you the time i tried aquarian texture coated batters on my toms....they sounded like basketballs in the room i tested them in. ...
Dude, try Aquarian. You like the sound of my gretsch snare with the Focus X batter.
I assume Tama will release their replacement of the B/B and SC Bubinga @ 2019. I'm hoping to see add-ons and more finshes from Yamaha for Tour Custom, Stage Custom....Yamaha may be revamping the...
Did Todd Sucherman play this at PASIC?
For those wondering if theres much audible difference between wood types

The way I've heard Oak described is a happy medium between maple and birch. Yamaha does extensive R&D just like the other companies, I think they do even more R&D considering the many products...
I don't think Pearl has a reason to, unless it was added to MW/MCC.
DW & Yamaha are the Oak options at the moment. (there may be more that I'm not as familiar with)
I believe Yamaha will be...
It'd be hard to pick between the Session Select and a "Masters Birch Complete"...IF they were to be reality at NAMM 2019
Too bad they don’t ship from the factory this way....*cough* AL lol
You just leveled up your kit, What a difference!
Speculation is a revamped Oak series. Maybe with new finishes? I can't say for sure
I'll be keeping my SLP G Bubinga for sure
