I remember reading somewhere that Gallop is the drunk driving capital. There's not a whole lot in Joshua Tree. 29 Palms USMC base is near by, other than that it's mostly desert.
Gallup, NM is "The Indian Capital of the World." It's straight out of the Rolling Stones oldie "Get Your Kicks on Route 66." We traveled Route 66 hundreds of times because we still had grandparents in LA. (It's now I40 or The Santa Monica Freeway and still goes to Chicagoland). My son in common law and his wife live in Joshua Tree, CA. It's South of Berdoo and east of San Diego. I've never been there but he was here for a day earlier this month. Happy Easter and luck fishing!
I'm in Temecula which is about 50 miles or so south of "San Berdoo" and about 60 miles north of San Diego. Pasadena is still a pretty nice area of LA. I was in NM a couple of years ago when I drove my daughters car back from Colorado Springs. I stayed in Santa Fe one night then traveled down to Albuquerque and east through Gallop on the 40.
Where do you live in S. CA? I'm from Pasadena but I've lived out here since 9th grade; (my dad's big idea! LOL! My ole lady is from San Berdoo. I love LA but now just to visit. In NM one gets used to open space and the ability to quickly get away from it all!
