The e-kit I have was Yamaha's top of the line about 3 years ago before they came out with the new silicone pads but the brain is the same, it's worth about $3500 which I could have afforded without trading in all my old gear. It uses real Paiste cymbal samples and drum samples from real Yamaha kits so they sound pretty good. The biggest problem I have is when you want to roll on the toms, you start to get that 'machine gun' effect because every note is sonically the same which sounds unnatural. The snare pad has more forgiveness in that regard and the hi-hat is rather unforgiving for really intricate sticking because it's a little too soft.

Overall I really love it and don't miss my old kit at all though I'll get into another acoustic kit eventually.

I'd definitely be interested by my computer is junk and I don't have any software to run samples to my brain... which is why I need a new computer, hahah.

Hey man, I NEVER thought in a million years I'd give up my old kit to get an e-kit, but life has a way of changing your mind sometimes. I also never thought I'd get sick of playing in bands or touring or anything else, but I sure did. Then I went for about six months of playing NOTHING and because I can't set up an acoustic kit at my place I didn't even touch my drums and it bummed me out hard. Now I can play and jam with my buddies in the living room!

hey man, I didn't want to derail Matt's thread anymore either, haha. He's sensitive about that kind of thing.

Yeah, the stock sounds are decent and sound even better when recorded, for some reason. I became VERY disenfranchised with bands and such a couple of years ago and decided to trade in all my drum gear on an e-kit and it was really the right decision. I can play any time I want now, record with ease and have really quiet jams with my buddies. When I get a better computer I'm going to invest in 'superior drummer 2.0' which is a SICK sounds and sample library that is compatible with my brain/kit. They have some unbelievable sounds that replicate everything from overtones to inner/outer head response to dynamic tension and everything in between.

I'll probably get back into a regular kit some time in the future but for now I'm quite content as my e-kit plays nicely and I can play it whenever I want.

    Cheers bud!
