Ted - sorry I just saw your message today... yes - all my MLXs are clear lacquered on the inside except the 8x8 which was ordered very late (my guess 94-95) - the clear coat on the inside was unique to the BLX and MLX series. It adds projection and some attack to the sound - not that these drums would need that, but this was the way Pearl build them that days... If you want to remove the lacquer by sanding - be aware that it is really hard to do. I once tried it on a 13" BLX shell I modified to be a snaredrum and gave up... so hard this stuff!

Hi Oliver, I have a twin set of MLX in liquid amber. Are your shells clear lacquered on the inside like mine are?
