  • Should i go for a VBX

Im new to looking at drums (im 15 and have been playing for 3 years now but still play some cruddy starter set) and my drum instructor was telling me about this set he had just aquired, a Pearl VBX. it has: 8, 10, 12, 13, 16, 22 kick. is it a good deal to get this for 1100$?
Drums, Hockey and Football...how much better can it get?

In the fewest words...yes. You can compare drums all day long, but in the end I think Pearl's quality and sound outshines almost every other kit out there for the money.

The Vision kits have the best shell quality in their class*, great hardware, and some pretty cool finishes. The only thing's I'd like to see improved are the hoops. I think Pearl needs a kit with 2.3mm hoops as standard, and the bass drum hoops should always be fully finished on any lacquer finish, regardless of price.

    Welcome to the forum.

    * This is just my opinion.

Was the $1100 for the shell pack only, or including the snare and hardware? Regardless, sounds pretty fair. If it included the snare and hardware, it was dirt cheap.

I don't know what kind of kit you would want to play on, but the VBX range definitely has enough options to choose from, and they can stand a lot of use and even abuse. I have only praise for the Vision series, it's definitely the smartest choice for anybody looking for a good sounding, sturdy and well-built drum kit that will last. Sure, there are more high-end options available if you're willing to shell out the cash, but there's absolutly nothing in the Vision series that any professional drummer couldn't perform with.

The only lacking feature I find are the thin flanged tom hoops, and that too is pretty minor. They're ok, they work. But in the long run, you might appreciate some stiffer hoops like some 2.3mm SuperHoops. They're inexpensive and a smart upgrade for anyone who's serious about tuning. Die cast hoops are available too, but they're a tad expensive to have mostly for looks; the SuperHoops deliver the needed stability in tuning as well.

        I agree with everything posted!
Vision series kits are without a doubt the best bang for the buck out there today! Highly recommend them!!!!!!

Pfft it's great hardware period. Feature-wise it easily competes with any high-end hardware I've put it next to, including Pearl's own 1000 series hardware. And it's up to half the cost in some cases (ahem, DW 9700...).

Definitely great hardware. I use 900 series stands with the wing-lcoks that come with the 1000 series.

You won't be disappointed with a VBX. Also, i have to agree about the 900 series hardware. I wanted to get an extra 900 series cymbal stand so checked out my local music store. In Oz, they are quite expensive to buy individually, sadly.

Go for VBX. You can't go wrong with Vision series. If you have a bit extra cash.
You can even go with VMX, which you'll be amazed.
