  • Coated G1s

Anyone else use 'em? I love how they sound on my VBX.

Has anyone compared them to coated G2s? Whaddya think?

I use them on my Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute snare, especially when doing a lot of brush work. The coating has just the right amount of bite and the G1 coated adds an overall sensitivity to the snare that my Evans Power Center Reverse Dot does not. I thought about changing the tom batters on the Yamaha kit to G1 coated heads, but the G2 clears still reign superior.

I do have the coated G2's on my Pearl toms and they did cut down on the resonance and sustain compared to the G2 clears, which only makes sense.

Coated G1's are my favorite batter tom drumheads. They're sensitive, open, loud, resonant and warm. I have tried coated G2's before and for 2 ply, they're very good drumheads, though I'm a 1 ply fan through and through.

I use them for both my snares, a Musashi and a MMX. Great heads, I like them better than Ambs.

Yeap, G1s are the way to go for me too. Open and resonant, but warm too, making my toms sound deep. It takes some time to tune them really well though.

Just installed a set of G1 coated heads on my '90 birch/mahogany Exports.
I had these heads new, uninstalled from my on hand inventory and needed to replace the old worn out ones that came with my kit when I picked it up on CL.

Anyway I am pretty much an Aquarian convert. I had fully planned on slappin' on response II batters and classic clear resos..now, I think I will stay with the G1s until they wear out...and then ..??

They are sounding Great on these old EXs!!

Agree on all points - great sound, but a bit difficult to keep tuned.
