  • Jupiter snare wires

Well somehow I managed to find the impossible while searching ebay... NOS Pearl S-023 replacement snare wires. Still in their original packaging! These are going to make my old COB Jupiter VERY happy!

Super cool find! I had a similar experience and came across some NOS Tama King Beat snares, it's always a cool feeling. Congrats!

Very good find indeed, well done!

      I'm still searching for alternatives...
My revamped Pearl DX kit (now with 8" tom)
My refurbished 72 NC Deluxe Pearl Kit
My early 80's G314LXDC Pearl Snare
      Catalogue Corner Thread
      Restoring and refinishing (vintage) drums
      My Snare build

Thanks guys!! Fortunately the original wires on my Jupiter are still in great shape, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy a NOS set.

I also happened upon some NOS wires for the S-017 strainer a while back, but passed them on to another member here since I don't own any snares with that strainer. I'd love to change that in the future though! I really want a 14×6.5" Maple shell in Walnut lacquer to match the rest of my G-Series kit.

There is. The S-023 was long enough for the action that it protrudes past the shell. This means it can be adjusted to the desired tension, but also adjusted infinitely with the amount that it contacts the reso, ie sensitivity.

If you can't find an S-023 (they are no longer made), or make something up similar, and use modern shorter snare wires instead, then you can't adjust reso contact, as these wires will pull across the reso as you engage the action...

The Freefloaters use an extended snare system as well but with the standard slots instead of the circles, I’ve got some Tama snares that accept the same wires as well. I haven’t quite perfected how to dial them in just yet.
