    Thank you sir! 9ply it is. I'll post that information in my for sale ad.an aside... I have 4 gorgeous GreTsch sets and they all have their own beautiful loik and tone qualities. These relatively cheap Pearl Valencia drums have amazing tone and they're built solid. Other than the typical mij relatively cheaply built hardware the drums are beauties. My first set in 1965 was a MIJ no-name set and i was in heaven with it at the time.

    No, I don't need to e-mail for more pics.
    Yes I'm sure they are 9 ply shells, you can see individual plies in the first pic you put up (complete with "flea bites" on the bearing edge).
    Your shells have been painted at some stage, and maybe that's why someone suggested composite.

    Nearly all shells from Pearl, regardless of series, were 9 ply luan around that time. The exception was the Phenolic shelled President series.
