  • 1967 Vox by Trixon kit

I purchased this kit from Revival Drum Shop at the end of last year for a song. It’s got heavy beech shells, reminiscent of a vintage Sonor kit, some really cool hardware and a gold finish that has been faded to more of a ginger sparkle by exposure to sunlight, save for an area on the bottom of the kick drum. Sizes are 20x14, 13x8, 16x16 and the 14x5 snare with a parallel throwoff system that sounds insanely good! If only I could source some replacement snare wires for it. I’m running Remo Classic Fit Ambassadors on the toms and snare, which give me tone for days. Clear PS3 over coated ambassador on the kick with a felt strip on the reso. This kit is insanely fun and inspiring to play. I bought it to park it in a rehearsal space that I no longer have due to the pandemic and my band having no shows to rehearse for. But the kit has had plenty of use in the recording studio. Tone-wise it sits straight down the middle of rock n roll and jazz. Enjoy the pics.

A shot from a recording session. I was engineering, not drumming. You can hear the kit on this track: https://youtu.be/5I46LtUr9J8

There’s a drum solo that starts at 2:27.

What a great piece of history that kit is!

Their proprietary snare assembly looks interesting.

You should look into 3D printing some replacement gaskets for the lugs if they start to degrade any further.

I’ve always liked vintage, but I was always afraid I’d damage them in some way and the hardware has always given me concerns.
