  • Help to identify a snare drum

    Hey everybody,

been a while since I have been online.

Just another "can you help" question. Just want to confirm my snare that I have - it's an early 1980s 14x8 (I believe) Maple shell.

    https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZUTyu8GNGuF8aKWr7

Is this the old GLX snare? It was part of a kit but I traded the toms in for a new MLX kit in late 80s. I kept the snare...

Anybody know what these things are worth?

    F.

Can you post pic of bearing edge showing plies? and does snare have another smaller oval type badge that says "maple shell"?

I'm not too familiar with that era, but here is a 1982 catalog that may help. http://www.drumarchive.com/pearl/Pearl1982.pdf

Hey. There are no other badges other than the one in the photo.

I will take a shot of the plys for you.

        Strange one.

Hey thanks for this. Took a look but don't seem to be similar to mine. At first i thought i have the M-814 with a S015 strainer but looking at it more closely that is not my strainer. - but i am sure my snare is the m814.

I don't have the parallel action version either. At least i am sure it wasn't the s017. I think everything is original,

          Weird one!

It looks like your drum has the S-015EX strainer.

I think this is the right catalog for you to check out. From 1983 - http://catweb.tgtel.com/1983%20Pearl...%20spreads.pdf
It looks like it matches all of the specs for a GLX-514ED.

Unless it's the birch version, which I can't really tell by looking.

                  Hey Adman2B

                  I think this is it!

Where did you get these catalogs? Thanks so much.

Now just need to find value of this snare!

I used to have the kit in 12 and 13 extended toms with a 16 floor and a 20 bass drum.

I ended up with this snare by accident.

I since sold that kit and got an MLX kit around 1990 which i still have.

Apart from a couple of broken lugs on the floor tom it is still a nice kit. (It has the one piece full shell length lugs).

Hey thanks again for your help!

                  That is amazing.

                  Franco

Glad to help. I have several older catalogs saved that I have found over the years. Once I figured out what the strainer was, some searching led to more resources and down the rabbit hole you go.

It's either a early 83 BLX or GLX if it's 6 ply ... I'm leaning towards a BLX myself as the grain looks like Birch to me

Thanks but i am pretty sure it is Maple as i had the kit from new and am sure i ordered it in maple.

I just got this snare in error at the time.

That's great. Thanks. I don't think i have any old Pearl catalogs but i do have a Paiste book which features drummers and their setups. I think i threw most catalogs out.

But you know i will take another look and if i have any i will scan in.

I have recently found a few old things in a box i put away. ...
