  • NKD: BLX Sequoia Red and Question about stock reso head

    Hello Pearl Drummers Forum!

Just wanted to share a couple pics of my first Pearl kit, a 1990ish BLX birch kit, 12, 13, 16, 22. It's a nice step up from my Yamaha stage custom, which is a bit softer sounding, even with the same heads.

Who here still uses the original pearl logoed bass reso head? It seems quite thin, is there a such thing as a diplomat weight reso head?

    Thanks,
    Anthony

Beautiful kit man! I have the DLX series that I believe is fairly similar but older. Great sounding drums for sure!

Welcome to the PDF and the vintage section

        Nice kit!

I still use one of those reso's on my 1972 kit, only because I had it stored unused for ages.
You won't find one in black and diplomat weight AFAIK.
Remo do a black ambassador in 22", no Pearl logo...

          Thanks for the warm welcome!

Ya I was considering just throwing on a remo PS3, but it's not the same without the big "Pearl" on the front. And so starts my search for what exactly is available for pearl logo's heads...

Also, with clear emperors over ambassadors, these toms go quite loud, when I lay into them. A bit of a surprise actually. And they don't need much, or any moon gel.

Anybody have similar experiences, coming from lower-tier kits? I'll try to post a recording / new thread soon..

Just buy any reso head of choice and add a pearl logo decal...far more options that way. I had a bunch of the pearl decals made up buy a local sign shop.
My wife says I am no longer permitted to buy any more drums...I said okay you cant buy any more shoes...we are presently at an impasse! I see drums...she sees shoes!

I have found with my DLX kit that Evans EC2 or Remo pinstripes over single ply Reso heads such as a Evans G1 or Remo Ambassadors make the kit sing. I have the power tom sizes so drum volume is never an issue...I tune them with a tune bot for maximum resonance at the tune bot setting for the tom sizes and I love the sound.
