I have some decent gouges/scratches in my PPSS kit. I am curious what i should do to repair the damage ? I am attempting to restore the kit and its turning out to be a lot of work. Does anyone know what type of wood combinations these shells are ? I only know it was purchased new in 2001-2002. Do you guys think its worth the time to restore ? thanks for your input!@

honestly , the easiest , most cost effective thing would probably be to wrap the drums in a really nice drum wrap , i dont know how much you wanna put into it, but precission drums out here in poughkipsee ny , will wrap and do the edges they'll even cut the toms down if say.... theyre a little to deep for yer liking

To restore for yourself, sure it's worth it.
If to sell, then if you say your time is worth nothing, then it's still worth it.
There's only one image that shows finish damage, and that damage doesn't seem to be right through the finish, only the lacquer.
I would try to touch up the lacquer and see how that goes.

All the shells and chrome will come up pretty well with a good polish I reckon.

The bearing edges don't look to bad, but as said above, you could get them touched up.

7 ply - 7.5mm NA Maple and Asian Mahogany shells .. color is Black-Mist

I am glad to know the restoration is worth it.
I don't plan on selling the kit. I plan on restoring it to the point where its like new and keeping it forever!

I have ran my hands around all the bearing edges , I feel no imperfections its a little rough here and there. Definitely no dings from dropsy.
Would you recommend I send them in to somewhere in particular? I could sand them myself since the angle is still true to the original design.
Would i need to seal the sanded bearing edge after sanding ?
Since the bearing edges feel so great I may not attempt to 'fix it if it aint broke' Do you recommend I oil or wax the bearing edge to give it a drink ?

I would try a spray can of gloss lacquer to touch up. Youtube "wet and dry sanding", that's what you need to do as you slowly build up coats to fix the lacquer.

If you colour the lacquer black, it will obliterate your black mist finish

If the bearing edges feel pretty good when you run your fingers around them, they don't need any sanding. I would give them a good rub with furniture grade bees wax, until they feel silky smooth.

Precision Drum Company would do a nice job wrapping your kit. As far as the badges that are full of tarnish, you could PM Al Percival to see if you could swap them for new badges. They MIGHT have new badges they could give you, HOWEVER, it would only be possible if you surrender the badges you have now, 1 for 1 swap.

Thanks for the info Drumming 4 Life. I actually bought some lacquer sanding sealer , clear gloss lacquer and some wet dry sand paper. I am going to refinish the damaged area.. I will post pictures of the progress. I had no idea you could swap badges out lol I will message AL Percival thanks again!@
