  • Late 70s Pearl kit

Hi...I recently found a matching 14" tom for this kit, which I still haven't set on an ID for the model. Possibly DynaMax...? Pretty sure it's '78/'79, sounds amazing...

yeah , it's a 79-80 model Dyna Max if it was originally 13x9,16x16, 22x14 .. you said you added 14" concert tom so that wasn't part of it .. your kit should of came with a 12x8 tom ... anyway the wrap is called Brown-Flash .. I notice I don't see any second badges on shells that say "Maple Shell" and interior pic of bass drum looks like Birch , so that would make it a Dynamic Wood shell kit which was 7 Asian Mahogany plies with 1 Birch interior ply

Those super hoops on tom/floor tom aren't original because they came out in 83 .. also the bass drum spurs aren't period correct and were upgraded to newer style SP-30's

Good information, cheers BA...yeah the Dynamic Wood shell was also a possibility. I've no idea of the history of it, I rescued it from years in a garage in a rather sorry state. I noticed the interior grain and thought it was definitely worth a go!
Maybe the 14" tom was a later addition or special order....no idea about any other toms with it...it came 'as is'.
There was only one hoop on the 13" so I put a spare SH on and the spurs are borrowed from my GLX kit, just to see what it was like for gigging really...but it sounds so good, I've been using it most of the time...even recorded with it.

Looking at the catalogue, it could be what's lefft of a 422 Power Mate with DW shells:

It seems fairly normal that lots of people want to put a name to their kit.

You have to remember that what appeared in the catalogues back in the day were primers for ready made kits.
In reality though, one could always get whatever they wanted, or could afford.
Even then, Pearl did custom orders.

Personaly, I'd put a bottom head on that concert tom....

For an older kit, it sure is in nice condition. Kudos to the OP for taking such good care of this classic kit.
