  • How Much Should I Expect To Get For These 3 MLX Drums?

I'm selling off my MLX shells.
I'm including a tom arm for the 13" rack tom and legs for the 16" floor tom tom.
What's the minimum I should accept?

I don't know if I can help you with the minimum you should accept; that's kind of up to you. I've taken less than things are worth, simply because I wanted them gone. Anyway, your shells appear to be in great shape. And Liquid Amber is not as common of a color, so that's working for you, too. The down side is, if you're selling them individually, most people with those kits are already going to have all of those sizes, as along with the 12, those are the most common. Currently there's a 22x16 Sequoia Red bass drum on ebay for $249; it's been there for quite a while due to the price. I paid $150 for my 20x14, and that's a pretty rare size. I'd say your bass drum would likely sell in the 150-200 range. I sold a 13 in Sheer Blue for $100, and I wouldn't see yours going for any more than that. I think I bought it for $75. I bought a virgin white one for $45. 13 is a pretty unpopular size these days, for who knows what reason. I bought a 16 in Sheer Blue for $100. I could see yours going for somewhere in the 100-150 range. If selling as a whole kit, I'm not sure exactly. In general, whole kits tend to sell for a bit less than if the pieces were sold individually.

Just a quick tip for selling on ebay. If you do, be sure to use MLX in the title of the auction. The virgin white 13 I bought did not mention MLX, and I think that's a term people search on for these drums, so I don't think many people found it. I've seen other MLX drums sell for less than I thought they should've, and the same was true; no mention of MLX in the auction.

RC its too bad but not many know how special these drums are. but both members that replied pretty much nailed it. Last june I bought my mlx 22,16,13 & 12 for $450.00 at musicgoround. Your better off selling it as a set .Start at $450 but I wouldn't take any less than $400. The used market is a wicked one.

Here in NYC, the used market is without a doubt in the worst shape I've ever seen, and I've been buying and selling since 1991. No one, and I repeat, no one is buying anymore unless you are giving something away for free or close to it. With that in mind, I'd say that while your drums may have once been worth $350 to $400, in today's depressed market, don't expect any more than $200 to $250. Look at some of the sets that have been sitting for months, or in some cases years, on ebay and Craigslist to get an idea of what I'm talking about here.

            Thanks for all the input.
I'm selling them as a three piece kit. My hope was to get at least $400. I haven't even had an offer.
I do have a couple of offers on my 7 pc Exports. Now I want to see if either of those come through. One says he'll know if he can Monday, the other higher offer says he'll be ready a week from tomorrow.

              I'd say $300.

When people tell you that, it usually means you will never hear from them again. I've been buying and selling a long, long time, and while I am not a selling guru like Rick from Pawn Stars, I have noticed the psychology of the "game." When someone is a serious buyer, they usually will want to come out that night or the next day. When they start with "I'll let you know in a week," they're not serious, and in all reality trying to wait you out so you come down in price.

Having said all that, don't expect much more than $200 for those drums, as nice as they are. Liquid amber was not a popular color no matter how rare it is today. MLX's command a premium in black and hot red, white and maybe grey. Liquid amber, blue, and sequoia red are not moving much anymore.

One of the offers came from a friend who is a collector. The fact that gun metal sparkle was only available for one year is attractive to him as is the matching snare.
For $200 I'll keep the MLX and pay the 2 bills toward my new kit out of my paycheck or gig money. I'll hold firm on $400 for now.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what "gun metal sparkle" drums are you speaking of? The only ones in your post are liquid amber.

I believe he's referring to his Exports. Although that's an assumption, as I don't see the color of that kit mentioned when the Exports were talked about.

Sounds good RC . Be patient . It only takes one buyer. Be aware of the maggots out there. I sold my BSX last summer and was really frustrated at the scammers and lowballers on C/L .

He is talking about his Export EXR's in Gun Metal Sparkle. Click his profile and you can see them.

I mentioned them in one of my replies. They are EXR's also listed on Craigslist.
