  • Help Finding 24" Hoops w/Inlay

Have been working for a year on a vintage Ludwig restoration - 50s rack and floor but had to use a 70s kick. I have them finished in WMP, but am in need of two 24" bass drum hoops with inlay to complete the project. Been striking out on eBay or maybe I am just too cheap and don't want to drop another 100 bucks. Any suggestions on finding something would be greatly appreciated. I will post more pics when she is finished, but here is a sample. Thanks in advance.

Go to precision drums and you can order raw hoops with inlays. If you want a natural look just spray lacquer them (cost like 10$) or you can paint them black. Black will look like the original hoops.

Regardless, the unfinished 24" hoops with inlay grooves from Precision Drum will still run over $100 after shipping. And the wrap inlays themselves would cost extra. Sounds like you might just have to bite the bullet.

That's what I was afraid of. Looks like I gotta bite the bullet. Already bought a pair of cheap metal ones but they were chrome and it's flaking off. Not even sure I can repaint them. Just want to git r done!

Not sure just how cheap you were expecting to get them for...there was a pair of old Ludwig hoops that sold on ebay a few days ago for $39 (albeit with $35 shipping). Looks like the "cost of entry" to this endeavor will take from $75 - 130 with shipping. Kinda makes the brand new ones from Precision not look so bad...

Great job on the wrap, BTW!!!

I'd say repaint those. Sand off the chrome (or chemical strip it), prime'er, then paint.

you'd be hard pressed to find a pair of 24 inch hoops for less thna 100, so i say buy some new ones and add the inlay yourself...

if you buy them w inlay there already, then your cost goes up, but you can get raw hoops with the inlay channel and then just order seperate inlay strips and glue them on....that's what i did with the original ludwig hoops i had....

instead of spray paint black. i put on several coats of black stain...looks a lot better and won't chip off like spray paint,,,,just fyi...here's a pic of the stained hoops:

no, but that's an excellent idea for more protection. or use some spray poly over the stain.
