  • Older Ludwig marching snare?

Hi everyone. I picked this up off Craigslist for $60. It's obviously a Ludwig Canadian Forces marching snare as evidenced by the insignia on the shell. Being an ex soldier AND a drummer, I felt I had to rescue it. Lol. I'm not concerned about value as I probably would have paid a little more, just to have it. :-) Anyway, I was hoping some awesome person out there could help me in identifying a ball park year. Unfortunately, when I received it the badge had been ripped off. Oh yeah, it's a 14x10. Thank you in advance. ;-) Click image for larger version

That is awesome! What's funny is I have a 12x8 13x9 and 15x10 clubdate toms (in sky blue pearl and with the center lugs). You got my missing drum

I got a 14x10 but it has the split lugs. Just thought I would mention that. Those are great snares. Lots of body. I converted my 14x10 into a snare. Great find!

judging from the blue/olive badge and the black on silver p85 throw-off, plus the rust on the tension rods and the crack in the wrap, id guess anywhere from early 70s to early 80s ...

Thank you very much for the info guys. Just wanted an idea of its age. Very helpful. I don't have much experience in the field of fixing it up a bit. Can you tell me the best way to clean the lugs, tension rods, etc and maybe get them shining again. Thanks again. ;-)

id completely disassemble the drum...everything will come off...
you can clean the wrap with windex and then polish it with any kind of car wax you already have.

those lugs will polish up nicely. again, i use turtle wax cleaner/polish....same for the rims.

rusty t-rods can be soaked in various things like vinegar....lots of threads on how to clean them. id put those in a power drill and hold a piece of steel wool around the thread. should come very clean. after that, apply a drop of 3-in-1 oil to the threads.

Hey, thanks chilledbongo for the advice. Sounds like I could pull that off. Lol. I have a question though. You recommend Windex for the shells. The only Windex I have at the moment is ammonia based. Is that a big no no? Should I get a non ammonia based one?

i dont think it matters....that wrap is basically plastic. just wipe it right off..
