  • Project Mahogany Mammoth...

Ok guys, my second 28" marching bass drum finally got here after over a year, and now I am setting to work on what will be a most ambitious project. I love big bass drums, and was promised one of epic proportions but got let down. I also love vintage drums, so I had an idea. Here it is-

28 x 28 of Premier vintage rumbling goodness...just devising a way to join them whilst keeping them fastidious...more pics to follow...

Mammoth indeed. Anticipating the outcome and pics, if anything like the DarkStar.

Awesome! You could use screws between the lugs to hold them together. But you need something between the bassdrums to protect the bearing edges.

need some metal strap plates inside the bass drums and use the lug bolts to secure them.

search for Alex Van Halen pics to see how he does it. (he drills thru the shell tho)

I know it sounds like a PITA,
Can you get some left hand threaded inserts made up?
And some (long enough) rods with left hand thread on one end and right hand thread on the other (with a hex in the middle to allow you to turn it)?

With the left hand thread inserts on one drum and right on the other, then the drums will pull together (or push apart, depending on which way you turn the rod).

                        Or, perhaps easier,
Fairly stout stainless steel plate (as that can be polished), say 12mm (1/2") wide x 3mm (1/8") thick and as long as is necessary, with both ends bent over at 90 degrees and drilled to let a tension rod through, so you can wind the original tension rods in without modifying lugs or inserts.

                        It looks awesome mate...

I think I speak for everyone in saying, we're gonna need a sound sample of that monster.

The only problem I see is, how are you going to transport that thing given those tiny cars you guys drive over there? I'm not even sure it would fit in my SUV

what i suggested would be reversable w/o any damage.

i was also thinking maybe a bridge lug that does the whole job for you, but that would prolly be costly.

im curious as to what you have in mind
