Ages ago you might recall I was given this kit:

Badge:

I did a bit of research and I am pretty sure it's a NC deluxe series from 1972.
I tried cleaning it up and ended up with:

This made me realise that in it's present state it was shot.
What to do?
Wrap was going to cost me a fortune, what about paint?
I got some acrylic paint custom mixed, grain filled the shells inside and out, painted then clear coated. Recut the bearing edges myself, I chose double 45's.
Now it looks like:

And an angle shot:

The bass drum heads had been liqiud nailed to the shell, so it took ages to get that off the rims and sort that out.
There were mismatched lugs which took me quite a while to find and replace on the bass drum and toms.
Drum sizes are: 20 x 14 bass, 16 x 15 FT, 12 x 8 TT and 13 x 9.
I now realise how much lower everything gets with shallow toms on a smaller kick.
The snare (14 x 5) that came with it was minus a throw off and trashed, but ended up looking like this:

So I bought something (14 x 5 1/2 10 lug) from the same era as the kit off e-bay pretty cheap, it was trashed too, but ended up looking like this:

So after much frustration and hair pulling and quite a bit of cursing, I have a vintage kit back in playable order that looks a bit cared for, for my Blues/classic rock kit in the miked situations.
It's not perfect, but it is a lot better than when I started
So what do you think?

Photobucket changed their terms as well. Pics can be seen on page 4 of the thread
