  • DW 14x5 Cast Aluminum:Pics. and review

I still like DW's cast aluminum snares better than DW's Edge. They are a bit crisper, yet just as warm and responsive. Sound of the 14x5[pics 1&2]Aluminum:Crisp,responsive,with clear overtones, and warmer than brass, bronze, and copper....The 13x5[pic 3] is just higher pitched with less body.I like both equally as much....Last,but not least, my 13x6 DW Collector's Maple snare[pic 4].My drum teacher, who I hired to teach my students and I, fell in love with it today. It's tight, responsive, warm, loud and has a nice crack sound. I've always loved DW maple snares.

I owned the Ultracast in the same 14x5 size.IMO, the DW just seems a bit more lively, although they're close.

The aluminum snare is great. I own a 14x5 with the ball bearing throw-off. Does anyone know how this compares to the Pearl Ultracast? I am ordering a 14x6.5 this weekend.

Similar, but,I still like the DW and Noble and Cooley a tiny bit more. IMO, the DW and N&C just sound more open and alive.I'd have to give the Ultrcast another try.I owned a 14x5 UC for a few months a few years back.
