I just took these of a new 14x6.5. This is from a local five star drum shop.I love the way the owner tuned this snare - tight! It sounds great.

Russ..
The Cast Bronze and Reference are two difference animals, But would vaporize any small animal that crosses its path..
Reference- 14x6.5 w/ Remo CS
The Reference is the best Wood snare I have ever played. Its beasty crack, Perfect ghost note sound.. I can make it work for jazz, Rock,Metal,R&B and Blast beats sound AMAZING on this. All this with a Remo CS head, To to mention it has the perfect woody tone.. Tunes both tight and loose. Best snare for any rock application for sure.
14x6 Cast Bronze- Evans Power Center Reverse Dot
Very versatile and lots of Balls..
I have it tuned pretty both tight batter and Reso. Its got this Godly POP to it while retaining its Sensitivity. It will make you Deaf, and doen't need to be Mic'd at all..haha
No harsh overtones since its Cast Bronze and you can tune down low for that wet/fat sound and can be tuned pretty tight as well for that POP I was talking about.
Conclusion- Between the Reference and the Cast Bronze its hard to say, But I really don't have a need for any other snare.
They both cover all the bases with ease, Although this won't stop my procurement of snares by any means..My Kits-
Reference 4pc Setup
