I picked up one of pearls free floating snares a little bit ago because I really dig their sound. Although, the sound I've been hearing isn't the sound that comes outta my drum. Then I realized that people have been fixing this by drillin holes about 1.5 inch in diameter all around the shell... and it just cracks. I'm not sure how to go about doin this so could anyone provide some direction? I don't want no holy snare... PUN!

Free floating snares sound good without holes, if you want a snare with vents buy one designed with vents, don't ruin a great snare by doing so.
One way you can do this is buy a replacement shell to go in the free floater, you could buy a keller sheller (with bearing edges cut on top only) and put holes in that instead.

I have had FFS Snares for almost 18years and have never heard of this.
Please don't do it! My aybe try the Evans heads with the holes around the out side to dry up the sound a bit.
Good luck!

Thanks.
It wasn't like I was standing here with a drill in my hand and drill bits everywhere. I was just asking about it because I've heard of people who've done it, that's all... However, I really didn't appreciate the flaming from one of you. But yea, I was just asking around on how you can tune it to get the best crack sound. Mine is more of a thud sound and I wanted to fix that. You'll drown in a pool of your crooked morals
