Back in Guns N' Roses he was a Yamaha artist...for quite a few years after that too. That snare was a 14x6.5 or even maybe a 14x8 Birch snare. I have that video and the UYI 1 video as well. Matt Sorum is a great player by any standards. His playing on the cd's was controlled by producers and labels but when he was able to unleash his fury he did it well.Headhunters Sticks and Creations Artist

In Guns N' Roses live performances he always had to use Yamaha and Zildjian products because of his endorsements. In the studio he could have used anything he wanted and I'm sure he probably did. Now with Velvet Revolver he is and has been a DW artist for quite some time, as said before he has to use those products live but in the studio who knows what he usedHeadhunters Sticks and Creations Artist

i have the tour book.........and matt's my favorite by far...........but anyway, on teh UYI tour he used Yamaha Rock Tour Custom drums..........they're no longer made......but i beleive they were mahogany/birch.........as for the sanre........it was a 14x8 with a 2 ply coated head and the stock yamaha snare side head......he also used an auxilary Joe Montineri snare.........but it was like a 12x4Music can take you anywhere you want to go for a little bit of time. You can call that place anything you want to call it. You can name that place anything you want to name it.

He used a dozen snares in the studio for recording the two "Illusions". On all the ballads he played a Yamaha 14x8 birch snare ("The Big Red"). He used a Black Beauty and a Sonor brass snare drum as well.

One question I'd like answered is what was his second snare on that tour, as it worked as brilliantly with the snares on (Nov Rain outro intro, Estranged military parts, drum solo licks) as it did off (KOHD reggae and more). I have this little 10x7 Gretsch I use, which does a good enough job, but I do love Matt's second snare.
