  • Free Floating lug - how to remove?

    Hello,
A lug on my trusty old FFS from the early 90's broke, and I have a replacement...the only problem is how to remove the old one? It still seems to be firmly attached on one end.

    Any advice is appreciated.

Carefully unscrew it from the cradle. You may need to give it a whiff of WD40 then leave it overnight first.

Thanks for the tip! With a little elbow grease I got it off. i'm surprised there's not one video on Youtube about this.

The hex shaped lugs on the original chassis were much easier as you could just use a wrench, but the round lugs on the later models are harder. I'm pretty sure they all have thread locker on them too, which doesn't help. When I've have to do it I usually use some thin-ish rubber (at a pinch, a bicycle inner tube folded over a couple times will do) and a pair of good grips (or water pump pliers) and you can get them off without causing any damage to the lug surface.

Thread locker breaks very easily with a heat gun btw.
