  • Pearl Custom Classic

I am looking at a PCC. It is a one piece solid maple shell.
Anybody have any experience with this.
What is the time period of this snare

    Thank you

Hi Ken - the One Piece maple shell made its debut in 1990 (thru 93' I believe). Two models one with chrome hardware, the other with Gold.

    Model with Gold Hardware:
One Piece shell: shell thickness 7.5mm
    Brass finished custom classic lugs
    CL-5314D model 10 lugs
    CL-5314 model had 8 lugs
Gold plated high carbon steel snares
S-012BR brass strainer and brass hoops

    Model with Chrome hardware:
One Piece shell: shell thickness 7.5mm
    Chrome finished custom classic lugs
    CL-5314D model 10 lugs
    CL-5314 model had 8 lugs
Gold plated high carbon steel snares
chrome finished S-012 strainer and steel hoops

The Custom Classic snare actually shows as available as late as the 1996 catalog.

      Here is mine:

It looks like two shells of different material and one is inside the other, I wonder if they are interchangeable with other colors of the same dimensions

I have one - 14x6.5 but with one difference: it was wrapped, from the factory, not lacquered. Custom ordered by Steve White (The Style Council, Paul Weller, independent) from whom I bought it in 1999. Unfortunately the gold hardware hasn't aged fantastically (not helped by my love of rimshots) and the wrap has yellowed on one side from UV exposure. But on the whole, it's a great drum with a lovely warm sound.

I've had 5-6 of these over the years, and every time I sell one on I regret it and go and buy another!

My last one was black, and I upgraded the hardware to all black.
