Looks like Omar Hakim's big brother's snare! Lol
It's funny you mentioned that... my OH snare has tube lugs and Fat Tone hoops, just like Paul's new snare... so it really is a big brother.

That is a great looking drum. If you can, please providing a recording of it - would love to hear what it sounds like!

I'm not looking to hi-jack your thread, but I just won a Mapex "Heart Breaker" 14"x6" mahogany shell drum in a contest at my favorite music store. It's 4-ply Mahogany with 4-ply mahogany reinforcement rings, so 8-plies at the bearing edge. I've never owned anything like this before and sounds so different from all the other snare drums I own. Now I'm really curious how it compares to other African mahogany snares like yours and the original Pearl Omar Hakim signature drum.

            Masterworks Snare #141

The Masterworks 10 ply African Mahogany 14x5.5 snare. This snare is wonderful especially at mid to low tunings. I set up my MHX KIT with the 14x6.5 4plyw/4ply maple re rings. The Masterworks snare is even better sounding than I imagined it would be!

Sorry for the somewhat crappy picks ,more will be on the way!

Beautiful snare! I have a 14 X 6.5 MHX that I got in a trade from another member here. I love how the four ply mahogany sounds at the lower midrange tunings. The 10 plies of mahogany must sound amazing.

Thx 7empest , I played them side by side and you are spot on about the 4ply tuning. The 10 ply MW is fantastic at any tuning range. It might have to do with the Fat Tone hoops, even thought it’s shallower it seems to have more volume. WE HAVE THE MEAT!

                      MW Snare

A musician friend of mine called last night and asked me to sit in tonight so guess which snare is going to get used?
