  • My first Pearl snare in about 6 years!

I owned one of these around 2004/05 and loved it, and for some reason I sold it, and have regretted it ever since. So I've been keeping an eye out for one and got this at a reasonable price on Ebay last week

I reckon the guy who sold it to me had recently bought a beat up snare that he's doing up and he swapped the reso heads and tension rods, which were in awful condition (while everything else was pristine), but I don't mind - a new snare side head and 17 new tension rods and it looks and sounds like new...

So happy with it, it sounds AMAZING, and completely different to all my other snares, which I also tend to have at a high-ish tuning. This snare sounds so great at a medium-low tuning, it's got a really fat, rich tone that I'm really enjoying again

That's a great drum. If memory serves me right, they were the same as the MHX, in as far as 4ply/5mm shells with 4ply/5mm rings, but the Ltd Ed Classics had mahogany rings rather than maple that the MHX had. Never played one, but I suspect, just like the MHX, it'll sound especially good with a fat, low tuning

Yes, the washers were all there, but the replacement rods have very tight steel washers which are quite fiddly to remove. I was in a rush and wanted to take the snare with me so left them as they were - will swap them out next time I change the head...

Yes, that's exactly right! And the lower tuning sounds incredible with that dark mahogany tone
