This drum is from 2009 during the year of Ludwig's 100th anniversary. It is a 7-Ply (6mm) Classic Maple shell. It has brass hardware including die-cast hoops, tube lugs, and the P86 Millennium throw-off.
I'm not a fan of gold hardware, but it looks really nice with that deep red shell
I am a big fan of gold hardware. The first set that I remember seeing with gold hardware that I really loved was a guy on this forum that had a Masters set in Wine Red. Pretty sure he had gold stands and everything. I think it's a great combination with the dark red, but then again, I really like it will a lot of different finishes.

If all the hardware was gold (like Sucherman's custom Pearl kits), that would be better. I just don't care for the gold hardware in contrast to all the chrome hardware that usually has to go with it.
It definitely looks nice with certain colors of snare drums shells (like the wine red).

That's another beauty. Wouldn't mind having one of those in my collection.
I have one of the anniversary free floaters and find it to be a bit of a one trick pony. Great for heavy playing but that thick shell isn’t especially lively. Powerful — not a drum you’d bring to a jazz gig. Overtones are well-controlled for a brass drum.
Guru Tour padauk segmented
Tama Star walnut and maple kits (indigo sen/emerald curly maple)
Tama Starclassic Bubinga Select (marbled green metallic)
Tama Starclassic walnut/birch (jade silk)
Sonor Pro Lite blue sparkle

Good points.
I have a set of custom 3mm bell bronze Free Floating snare drums (in various sizes) and I would say the same things. Very powerful with controlled overtones.
