This drum was released with the Reference series in 2005. It has a 20-ply (25mm) mixed shell composed of 6 inner plies of birch and 14 outer plies of maple. The hardware includes Mastercast Hoops, 6 BRL65 Reference lugs, and an SR1000 Glide Lock throw off.

Pearl M1040128 10x4 Sopranino Snare Drum in Vintage Sunburst Finish

This drum was available from 1996-2013. In 1998 the lugs changed from RL05 to CL05 and the throw-off changed from SR016 to SR018. My drum has the more recent set up with CL05 lugs and SR018 throw off. This drum typically came in liquid amber finish but was special ordered in Vintage Sunburst. The shell is 6-ply maple (7.5mm).

I like the custom finish on this one.

I think the undoing of some of these 10" and 12" snares was Pearl's choice of the "Liquid Amber" color. They should have stuck with their usual course of doing these in black or natural finishes for stock items (as they have done with the Modern Utility series). I suppose the 10" and 12" chrome and black Firecracker snares outsold these as well.

This drum was available from 1996-1999. It has a 6-ply (7.5mm) maple shell. In 1998 the throw-off changed from SR016 to SR018 and the lugs changed from RL05 to CL05. This is the earlier version with SR016 throw-off and RL05 lugs in addition to the Diecast hoops. After this snare was discontinued in 1999, a very similar drum was added to the Piccolo series without JR's name and with triple-flanged hoops as the M1440 and stayed in the line through 2013.

I think it needs stainless steel tension rods.

I liked the non-signature version better too.

This drum was available from 1996-1999. It has a 6-ply (7.5mm) maple shell. In 1998 the throw-off changed from SR016 to SR018 and the lugs changed from RL05 to CL05. This is the earlier version with SR016 throw-off and RL05 lugs in addition to the Diecast hoops. I like this shell with chrome hardware. The contrast really makes the shell hammering POP! It has Pearl tube lugs, Fat Tone hoops, and the Click-Lock strainer.

I like yours better with the chrome hardware too. The SR-150 strainer is a nice touch too.

I just wish this shell didn't have the big badge screwed into it.

This drum was available from 2008-2010. It has a 1mm hammered brass shell with all gold plated hardware including Superhoops, CL55 lugs, and SR017 throw-off.

This was the October 2012 snare club drum. It has a mixed 6-ply (7.5mm) shell made up of 2 inner plies of mahogany and 4 outer plies of poplar. The hardware includes Fat Tone hoops, CL65 lugs, and SR017 throw-off.

Interesting combination of new and old features.
