Let dry and then apply typical topcoat with poly-urethane clear coat over the finish. I don't know the exact precise process but it is something along these lines that most manufacture uses.

The wrap is then removed and the piece can either be top (clear) coated, or a candy color can be put on top to get a more custom effect. The marbleizer comes in a few different colors and even clear so you can come up with your own custom creations using different pearls, flakes and candys which is what I like to do.

There are quite a few videos on YouTube showing how this is done.
At some point in time I remember seeing a video of a swirl finish being made on a Jackson guitar. I have searched but can't find the video anywhere now. The process you described is how they did their finish, except to add that their finishes are swirled, so they grab the saran wrap in the center of the guitar & twist it to remove it. The result can be quite spectacular. The picture below is a Jackson KV2T in Silver Swirl finish that I used to have. It's not a great picture but the only 1 I have now. That finish was amazing up close.

This drum was available from 2001-2013. In 2005, the throw-off changed from the SR017 to the SR1000 Glide-Lock (Reference) throw-off that is on this drum. In 2014 the Ultracast was replaced by the Cast Aluminum snare drum in the Hybrid Exotic series. The shell is 3mm Aluminum and has all black hardware. In addition to the SR1000 throw-off, it has Superhoops and TB65 tube lugs. I also have the 14x5 version.

I've never bought either of these Ultracast snares, but still with I would have. I'm just not a big fan of the matte black finish with the gloss black hardware.

Do you prefer the new Cast Aluminum with chrome hardware and STL100 ball lugs? They are pretty sharp looking.

edit: I guess I probably shouldn't call something "new" that is 5 years old, but they still feel new to me.

All of my MW kits have the STL- lugs. I only use the STL-100 on my cocktail kit.

I like the additional look of the chrome and gold with the regular STL-150, STL-300, STL-55L, and STL-65 lugs since all my kits have a lot of black in the finish. I think it's good to have the contrast. I've never cared for black-on black.

I use the SRL-150 strainer on all of my wood snare drums now. However, all of my metal snare drums have the ARL-55 or ARL-65 lugs.

It was nice that they did it with double row single lugs.

It's interesting how the trend has gone to Matte Natural since then. Heavy shell on this one too.

                            • Everything like that seems cyclical. Right now matte finshes and wraps are the trend. Give it another decade and everything will be back to high gloss fades and bursts or maybe even something new. I like all of it in different ways.
