  • Snagged This Pearl Limited Edition Snare, But Can't Find Anything On It

I was at my local Guitar Center yesterday and they had this beautiful snare drum for $90 bucks:

I want to first say that it's a Limited Edition Pearl Vision Birch, as it has the same hardware, but for the life of me I cannot find this wrap anywhere online in my extensive research. It's a beautiful sounding and looking snare. Really has a vintage vibe going for it in sound and looks. I just want to be sure of what I have for if any one in my travels asks what this is. But, probably the second best looking drum in my collection
    Drum Heads are for pros.
    Heads are for the lazy.
Skinz are for the cool catz.
Plastic Covers are for those that know nothing about drums.

Strata Red wrap for sure. It's probably a "birch-ply" shell, which means it's a ply of birch matched with poplar, so half birch, half poplar. The strainer is the SR-900, which is very nice when it works properly. I had 2 of them work very well, and 2 of them that were defective... so 50/50 for me. Nice find!

Thanks guys! A full Strata Red kit would be absolutely gorgeous. And I thought it might be half birch, half poplar. Would definitely explain the drier sound which actually is a good snare to add to the collection. And, the snare strainer does work properly, smooth as butter.

The strainer itself lists for $84 by itself, so you got a nice deal on the snare as a whole!

I do love the strainer. Doesn't give any resistance like a lot of your other strainers. I've got a DW Mag strainer on a custom snare, and they're both just equally smooth.

I have one that I took the wrap off of. It has black hardware. I'm still trying to decide what color to stain it.

The VSX and the EXR both had Strata Red wraps by Delmar. It's beautiful and the drum is either all Poplar (EXR) or Birch and Poplar (VSX). When I first joined the PDF I was waiting for delivery for my Strata White EXR.

I didn't think I would buy a MCX in 3 years, but many discussions defending Exports put the taste for a Masters in my head. They were so right!

Since your Snare is a Special Edition you need to ask Al or take a head off and see the shell. I would bet it's a VSX because Exports were never known for good snare drums. It really could be anything in a Delmar Wrap Strata Red or Red Marble.

I hadn't heard of VPX before. The VSX came in Strata Black, Strata Blue, Strata Red, and Strata White. I think as a Vision they called it Marble instead of Strata. I'll have to check out our local GC when it's safe. I really want a Brass Sensitone. Oh your snare has an Exotic Delmar Wrap.
