  • Pearl Maple shell Made In USA restoration

A few months ago, I purchased a 14x8 Maple shell Made In USA Pearl snare (probably '83-'84 model). The drum sounded phenomenal, so I really wanted to prolong its life. The wrap was cracked, so I completely stripped the drum and re-wrapped with a whitewood wrap. I polished the hardware using Autosol. This drum is now my #1 live snare with my band, and it sounds SO good. Cross-sticking on this one is a blast, with a cut like you won't believe. And with the Powerstroke head I now have a rock snare with a lot of body and still a nice crack. It's hard to capture the "wood grain" in this wrap on film, but it looks fantastic. I couldn't be more happy

Bad Astronaut has a very firm handle on when the USA badges appeared on Pearl shells, hopefully he will chime in soon.

For me, it looks to be a 1984 or 85 MX714ED, based on the superhoops and the throw off.

It isn't from 83. There were totally different snare protectors on the reso hoop that year..

Looks really good. What year of production? I would guess 80-82 by the label, but I may be way off And in these pictures it's easier to see the holes for the damping mechanism. Did you remove it, or was it already removed when you purchased the drum?
