  • New OCDP vented snare drum purchase

It's bought myself a new snare, I'm really excited about it, since I've always wanted a vented snare drum but until now could never afford one.

    It's an OCDP 14"x5" 15 ply snare with 4 2" vents.

I think it was part of the production line snares they made just before turning to mass produced series drums. But it looks great and I'm sure as good quality as the old snares they used to make..

Actually, I think that's a custom snare, judging from the badge. I don't think OCDP really did production drums before the GC buyout.

Not sure how it sounds yet, as I can't play drums in the house (thin walls), I will hopefully get to play it at full volume in a few days.. Until then, it's tapping it very lightly with a finger, but at very low level it sounds great and very sensitive. It sounds virtually the same on both sides (as sensitive on top side as hearing it from the underside).

Just tried it out today full volume with a Remo Emperor X on top, Ambassador snare side bottom and Puresound snare wires.

Ive got to say I really like it, didn't seem that dry to me, although it is quite articulate, but tuning range is pretty good, and you can definitely hear the snare wires from the drivers seat (it's actually weird because the buzz from the snare wires don't interfere with the toms).

So yeah, definitely meets my expectations, I intend to change the top head for a coated Emperor soon, as I think the Emperor X is too heavy and focused, although it has a great overtone.

                  Congratulations. I don't have a vented snare...
Check out my incomplete snare drum collection thread. I like it and think it is quite charming. :)

officially had a chance to try it out full volume.

I've got to say I really like the sound, probably the best snare drum I've played, even compared to my Bell Brass. It's very sensitive, even in the lower tuning range. (It actually sounds great tuned low). I haven't found it to be as dry as some other reviews, it is articulate but has a nice ring also. I'm currently using a Remo Emperor coated and really cuts through. Cranked up it works great for funk.

I'll be keeping an eye out for more snares like this, as I would love to build a collection of vented snares.

I bet you could hit it for a few seconds. People use hammers, right?

                      What did it cost you?

See last post, managed to try it out at full volume. But I guess you're right.

Can't remember how much it cost me, unless i previously posted it, I think it was about £300 GBP. Which isn't bad for what it is. No regrets!
