I actually did a quick search for thin brass hoops and couldn't find any less than 2.3mm. I also recalled I had a Tama bronze snare with Mighty Brass Hoops and I never fully got the sound I wanted. There is something about a thin steel hoop that just makes that sound I want easy to obtain. I also now realize a '68 Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl 5 pc I sold many years ago, lost it's mojo shortly after I replaced all the hoops with 2.3 Gibraltar hoops. I had the edges re-done on the rack toms and always thought that that was the reason. Doh! Now...I get it. Hoops do not get the attention they should. The hoops alone have A LOT to do with how every drum sounds, feels and behaves. I don't think that can be overstated.
