  • A needle in a hay stack (BRX snare)

Well, not exactly what I was looking for, but close enough. I found this nice 14 x 5.5 Natural Finish BRX snare on ebay so I snatched it up. It's REALLY hard to find Natural finish BRX drums these days, so when one presents itself you gotta make the move.

I'm not a fan of black hardware, so I will swap out the hoops (I have a new set of Supperhoops ready to go) and will now be on the hunt for chrome Masters lugs. This snare is in real nice condition, the shell is flawless, so it will be worth the effort to get the hardware to suit my taste. If anybody has any Masters chrome hardware laying around you want to get rid of let me know. I'm also thinking of tube lugs, I will sell the back hoops and lugs to offset the cost.

This should be a nice addition to my kit, I'll get some shots of it with the kit when I get the new hardware.

VERY NICE grab Jeff!!! I think you should get some chrome tube lugs for that snare : ) Just sayin'! it will change the appearance dramatically as you know. You would pay, but it would be real nice to get the masters premium lugs for it and have a craftsman drill the extra holes. That would look super sharp but again it would be pricey.

I wonder if Pearl has tube lugs for a 5.5 depth snare where you wouldn't have to drill anything? I know my sensitone classic II is a 5 inch depth with tubes so not sure if that would fit your hole spacing or not. Have to ask Al probably.

I'm sure whatever you do will look stellar. Can't wait to see the new setup pics too. I never get tired of looking at your kit!!

I forgot to mention, I have a new chrome DW true hoop that would fit the snare side if you're interested. It is very similar to the Superhoop, but a little thicker (3.0 mm instead of 2.3 mm).

LOL, I'm sure Matt would have changed the throw on it as well but when I first saw it I thought the same. Matt, looks like you have a signature look on the forum! LOL

Thanks Justin, I think your right about the tube lugs. Although the masters Premium lugs are kind of pricey, I'd most likely go with the standard Pearl tube lugs. They are available for the 5.5 depth snares.

Matt, Yes they're yours if you want them. I can take some better pictures if you want.

Thanks again guys, I can't wait to get this snare squired away. Any head and snare (it has 42 stand snares that are not in the best shape) recommendations ?

Sweet grab Jeff. At least you don't have to mess with the throw/butt plate. If I had something for that hardware if take it... But Matt beat me to it

TB-50 will fit this snare. It's weird that CL-55 and TB-50 have the same hole spacing... that's just how it is.

Masters Premium lugs (STL) will not fit this snare without 20 additional holes drilled... not worth it. Jeff, make sure you DON'T order TB-55... those lugs will not fit your snare. Trust me, I've already been through this

Funny thing is awhile back, I bought a new MCX snare in black sparkle that happened to have black HW. I then switched the black with the chrome HW on my BRX snare and resold the MCX snare with the chrome HW on it. I took a little loss, but only about 50 bucks. I think this is the best way to go.
