  • Pearl Chad Smith Sig Snare

I'm going to go check out a used one of these tomorrow and was wondering what peoples opinion on this snare is. Going from YouTube vids it seems to be a pretty good all purpose snare, which should do me fine. The guy is asking $200 which seems pretty fair, I should be able to get him down a little. It appears to be in decent condition judging from the crummy photos, could use a new head though.

    Thoughts?

I've played one gig with one. (Another drummer's snare) It had a black pinstripe on it :0 and it was cranked right up. It blew me away, tone and the pure sonics of it made this a killer live drum imo. 200 is a good number but knock him down a bit for the batter head though. Good luck!

Hi, it's a pretty good snare. I love mine. Have it cranked up high and it produces a loud crack with amazing bite that cuts through brilliantly. However it is still extremely versatile and when tuned lower, still produces a nice sound with sensitivity.

I can't comment on the price as I m from the UK, but trust me, you ll love the snare, even if you don't like chad smith!

Great snare, I love mine. I have a coated Ambo at a medium high tuning, its very sensitive with no harsh overtones, just a pleasant ring. If its in good shape $200 is fair.

Yeah, it's $285 on the Long and Mcquade website, and stuff in the store is usually more than it says on there, plus taxes... I'm hoping it's not too beat up. And also, thanks for all the replies guys, definitely helping me decide.

Well I got it. Has a couple little scratches on it but overall it's in pretty good shape. Only paid $180 for it too. Now I just have to get used to using a 14" snare again, been using a 12" forever now...

I'll try to get some pics soon. I should probably clean it up a little first though too, it's pretty dusty.

Congrats man the dirty Factor always scores and lowers the price for something like that. Can't wait for pics and video

After closer inspection and a little research I think this snare has the wrong butt plate on it. Doesn't look at all like the sr-015 butt plate that should be on there... Unless I'm wrong. Could someone post a pic of the butt plate on their CS sig?

I've been drumming regularly now for about 10 years, and I've been a member of this forum for about as long, and I think it's interesting how opinions on the Chad Smith signature snare have come full circle.

When I first got on here, there wasn't a ton of love for the Chad Smith snare. It was regarded as a step up from the poplar snares that came with Exports, but it was never really heralded as anything too special. Back then the snares that were getting the lover were drums like the Ultracast, pretty much anything that had a "DW" badge slapped on it, Free Floaters, and a couple of other signature snares like the Pearl Steve Ferrone, and the Dennis Chambers signature snare.

Personally I always thought the Chad Smith snare was pretty decent, so it's cool to see how the opinions about it have shifted.
